Quick picks

Here’s the short version. Full details on each pick are below.

Pick Price per pound Best for Buy
CAP 260 lb Economy Bumper Plate Set $1.00 Best for most people Amazon
CAP 100 lb Economy Bumper Plate Set $1.00 Lowest total price Amazon
CAP 370 lb Economy Bumper Plate Set $1.00 Most weight Amazon

Prices and full specs are in the comparison table and picks below.

My rule for this list: a complete set of 2-inch Olympic bumper plates, sold on Amazon, $1.00 per pound or less delivered on the day I checked, in stock, and with at least 100 ratings. Price per pound is just the price divided by the total weight of the plates.

Why I made it: when I searched for bumper plates under $1 per pound, the top results were a Reddit thread, a Walmart sale write-up, and two deal posts from January 2026. Nobody had a current list, and nobody checked delivery. That matters with plates: in the same Amazon search, one bumper listing at $109.99 showed $59.99 delivery, and another at $299.99 showed $89.99 delivery.

How I built it: this guide is research-based. I compared current Amazon listings and the review summaries on each one. I haven’t hands-on tested these plates. Prices are what Amazon showed on Nov 1, 2026, so check the price in your cart before you buy. Delivery fees can change with your ZIP code.

Comparison table

Set Price (Amazon, Nov 1 2026) Delivery (when I checked) Pairs included Price per pound Rating
CAP 100 lb Economy $99.99 Free 10, 15, 25 lb $1.00 4.4 (864)
CAP 260 lb Economy $259.99 Free 10, 15, 25, 35, 45 lb $1.00 4.4 (738)
CAP 370 lb Economy $369.99 Free 10, 15, 25, 35, 45, 55 lb $1.00 4.6 (204)
CAP 160 lb Economy Speckled $165.99 Free 10, 25, 45 lb $1.04 4.4 (118)
CAP 260 lb Economy Speckled $269.99 Free 10, 15, 25, 35, 45 lb $1.04 4.6 (223)
CAP 160 lb Economy (black) $167.99 Free 10, 25, 45 lb $1.05 4.5 (512)

The three sets at $1.04 and $1.05 are the near misses. If you want the 160 lb plate mix (two 45s, two 25s, two 10s), the speckled version was $2 cheaper than the black one when I checked.

How much weight do you actually need?

Add 45 lb for a standard Olympic barbell. The 100 lb set gets you to 145 lb on the bar, the 260 lb set to 305 lb, and the 370 lb set to 415 lb. Deadlifts and squats usually outgrow a small set first, so if you already lift, I’d skip straight to the 260.

The picks

1. CAP 260 lb Economy Bumper Plate Set: best for most people

This is the one I’d buy. It was $259.99 with free delivery, which works out to $1.00 per pound. You get pairs of 10, 15, 25, 35, and 45 lb, so you can load in 10 lb jumps without buying anything else. The listing describes a medium-bounce rubber blend with steel hubs. It’s rated 4.4 from 738 ratings. In Amazon’s review summary, value for money mentions were 73 positive to 6 negative, and weight accuracy was 30 to 10. The catch is the smell and the oil: 62 of the 78 reviewers who mention odor were negative, and 37 of 38 who mention greasiness were negative. Plan to wipe them down and let them air out, ideally somewhere other than a finished room. Check price on Amazon

2. CAP 100 lb Economy Bumper Plate Set: lowest total price

If you’re just starting out or only need plates for presses and rows, this is the cheapest way in. It was $99.99 with free delivery, so $1.00 per pound, for pairs of 10, 15, and 25 lb. It has the most ratings of anything here: 4.4 from 864. Value for money mentions were 64 positive to 10 negative. Durability was more mixed at 23 to 13, so check every plate when it arrives. The big limit is the top end: with no 45s, you max out at 145 lb on a standard bar. Check price on Amazon

3. CAP 370 lb Economy Bumper Plate Set: most weight

Same plates as pick #1, plus a pair of 55s. It was $369.99 with free delivery, shipped and sold by Amazon, which is $1.00 per pound. It’s rated 4.6 from 204 ratings. Odor shows up here too, 14 negative to 5 positive out of 19 mentions, with one reviewer saying the plates arrived greasy and chipped and another saying a scrub with a damp cloth got rid of the smell. Only buy this one if you already know you’ll use 400+ lb on the bar. Otherwise the 260 set is the same price per pound for $110 less. Check price on Amazon

How to choose

  1. Count the delivery fee. A $60 to $90 delivery charge can push a “cheap” set well past $1 per pound. All three picks showed free delivery when I checked.
  2. Pick by your heaviest lift, not your current one. Use the bar math above.
  3. Plan for the smell. Rubber odor is the top complaint across all of these. A garage or unfinished basement handles it better than a finished room.
  4. Protect the floor anyway. Bumpers are easier on concrete than iron, but my basement gym flooring guide covers what to put down first.

FAQ

Is $1 per pound a good price for bumper plates? Among the Amazon sets I checked on Nov 1, 2026, $1.00 per pound with free delivery was the lowest I found for complete bumper sets with at least 100 ratings.

Are bumper plates or cast iron plates cheaper? On Amazon on Nov 1, 2026, the bumper sets were cheaper per pound. The cheapest complete cast iron set I found that met my other rules was $1.19 per pound (see the honorable mention).

Why does the speckled version cost more? It’s the same plate mix in a different color pattern. One reviewer said only the 10s in their set were speckled, so don’t pay extra for the look unless the price gap is tiny.

Honorable mention: cast iron, just over $1 per pound

CAP 285 lb Elite Cast Iron Grip Plate Set. If you’d rather have iron plates with grip handles, this is the best-rated set I found. It was $338.99 (list $359.99) with free delivery, which is $1.19 per pound, so it misses my $1.00 line. You get six 2.5s, four 5s, four 10s, and pairs of 25, 35, and 45 lb, which means smaller jumps than the bumper sets. It’s rated 4.8 from 242 ratings, and quality mentions were 43 positive to 3 negative. Check price on Amazon
