My rule for this list: a complete set of rubber hex dumbbells with a rack in the box, sold on Amazon, $300 or less delivered on the day I checked, in stock, and with at least 100 ratings. I ranked them by price per pound, which is just the price divided by the total weight in the set.

Why I made it: when I searched for the best dumbbell set with a rack under $300, almost every result was a product page. The one roundup I found (dated April 2026) mixed complete sets with dumbbells sold one pair at a time with no rack, listed one pick as “unavailable,” and didn’t do the price-per-pound math. Nobody I read checked delivery fees, and they matter here: in the same Amazon search, two sets priced at $189.99 and $199.99 showed $69.99 delivery on top.

How I built it: this guide is research-based. I compared current Amazon listings and the review summaries on each one. I haven’t hands-on tested these sets. Prices are what Amazon showed on Oct 31, 2026, so check the price in your cart before you buy. Delivery fees can change with your ZIP code.

Comparison table

Set Price (Amazon, Oct 31 2026) Delivery (when I checked) Pairs included Price per pound Rating
CAP 150 lb, A-frame rack $189.99 Free 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 lb $1.27 4.4 (11,882)*
CAP 150 lb, 2-tier rack $199.99 Free 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 lb $1.33 4.6 (326)
BalanceFrom 150 lb, A-frame rack $204.99 Free 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 lb $1.37 4.6 (16,960)*
BalanceFrom 100 lb, A-frame rack $143.49 Free 5, 10, 15, 20 lb $1.43 4.6 (16,960)*

*Amazon shares one rating count across every size and style on these listings, so the number covers more than the exact set shown.

The BalanceFrom 150 lb set has the same five pairs as the CAP A-frame set but cost $15 more when I checked, and it shares the rack complaints I cover under pick #3. That’s why it’s in the table but not in my picks.

Is 150 pounds enough?

A 150 lb set means five pairs, 5 through 25 lb. That covers curls, raises, presses, rows, and goblet squats for a lot of people starting out. The catch is that the heaviest pair is 25 lb, and leg and back work tends to outgrow that first. If you already know you’ll want heavier, look at the honorable mention at the end, or pair a lighter set with my adjustable dumbbells under $300 guide.

The picks

1. CAP 150 lb Rubber Hex Dumbbell Set with A-Frame Rack: best value

This is the one I’d buy. It was $189.99 with free delivery, shipped and sold by Amazon, which works out to $1.27 per pound, the lowest here. You get pairs of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 lb and a steel A-frame rack with rubber inserts. The listing says the heads are ASTM A48 Class 20 grey iron with a cold-rolled steel handle (15 lb and up) and medium-depth knurling. In Amazon’s review summary, quality mentions were 1,325 positive to 215 negative, and sturdiness mentions were 236 to 69. The big heads-up is smell: 534 of the 617 reviewers who mention odor were negative, and a few said the weights arrived coated in oil. If your gym is in a finished basement, plan to wipe them down and air them out for a few days. The set also ships in multiple boxes, and one reviewer said a box went missing, so count your pairs when it arrives. Check price on Amazon

2. CAP 150 lb Rubber Hex Dumbbell Set with 2-Tier Rack: best rack

Same five pairs, but the rack is a horizontal two-shelf stand instead of an A-frame. It was $199.99 with free delivery, shipped and sold by Amazon, so $1.33 per pound, just $10 more than pick #1. It’s rated 4.6 from 326 ratings, and 20 of the 21 reviewers who mention sturdiness were positive. The listing says the shelves keep the weights at reach height, and one reviewer said there’s enough room between weights that fingers don’t get pinched. Plan for the footprint: the listing gives 28.74″ wide by 16.14″ deep by 22.83″ tall, which is wider than an A-frame. Odor is mixed here too, from “no noticeable odor” to “rancid,” and one reviewer reported the rubber coating peeling. Check price on Amazon

3. BalanceFrom 100 lb Rubber Hex Dumbbell Set with Rack: lowest total price

If $190 is more than you want to spend, this is the cheapest complete set I found that met my rules. It was $143.49 (list $159.99) with free delivery, shipped and sold by Spreetail through Amazon. That’s $1.43 per pound for four pairs: 5, 10, 15, and 20 lb. Reviewers like the weights themselves: 3,418 of 3,559 mentions of weight quality were positive, and grip mentions were 860 to 17. The rack is the weak spot. Sturdiness mentions were 215 positive to 1,064 negative, and several reviewers said the stand wobbles or tips when the lighter weights come off. Two other notes: the review summary talks about colors and neoprene, so some of those ratings likely come from a different version of the set, and the heaviest pair is only 20 lb. How to choose

  1. Pick your top weight first. If 25 lb is enough for now, pick #1 or #2. If 20 lb is enough, pick #3 saves you about $46.
  2. Check delivery before you compare prices. A $70 delivery fee turns a $190 set into a $260 one. All three picks showed free delivery when I checked.
  3. Measure the spot. The 2-tier rack is almost 29″ wide. The A-frames take less floor.
  4. Plan for the smell. Rubber odor is the most common complaint across all of these. A garage or unfinished basement handles it better than a finished room.
  5. Protect the floor. My basement gym flooring guide covers what to put over concrete, and a weight bench under $150 is the next thing I’d add.

FAQ

Are hex dumbbells better than round ones for a home gym? For most home gyms, yes. The flat sides keep them from rolling when you set them down, and the rubber coating is easier on floors.

What’s a good price per pound for a dumbbell set with a rack? Among the sets I checked on Oct 31, 2026, the complete sets with a rack ran from $1.27 to $1.43 per pound with free delivery.

Is an A-frame rack or a 2-tier rack better? An A-frame takes less floor space. A 2-tier rack keeps the weights at reach height and, based on these listings’ reviews, felt sturdier.

Honorable mention: more weight, just over budget

CAP 210 lb Rubber Hex Dumbbell Set with A-Frame Rack. If you want a 30 lb pair from day one, this is the same CAP setup with six pairs, 5 through 30 lb. It was $299.99, shipped and sold by Amazon, which is $1.43 per pound. It didn’t make my main list because it showed a $14.99 delivery fee when I checked, bringing it to $314.98, or $1.50 per pound delivered, which is over my $300 line. It shares the same pooled 4.4-star rating (11,882 ratings) and the same odor complaints as pick #1. Check price on Amazon
